Stuart H. Radin - Mathematics Tutor

My Background

The problem that I have found with many career math teachers is that they are career math teachers. For some strange reason, these individuals believe that students are constantly thinking about math, when in reality most students start to think about math when they cross the threshold of their math class and cease to think about math the instant they walk out of their math class.

I have reached this point in my career through a different route, with a different skill set and experiences than a traditional math teacher. I have a broad base of knowledge directly applicable to mathematics. I have earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from the University of Connecticut and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Maryland.

I spent over 20 years in the construction industry, where I performed structural engineering, technical marketing and project management at various stages of my career. I am a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Connecticut (License No. 15268).

In 2004, I returned to school, earning a Teaching Certificate for Mathematics, Grades 7-12, from Central Connecticut State University. I have earned the level of Professional Educator for Mathematics, Grades 7-12, in the State of Connecticut (Certificate No.: C032016001515). I am also "BEST" (Beginning Educator Support and Training) Certified and have been determined to be "Highly Qualified" by the state of Connecticut.

Because teaching is a second career for me, I am able to bring a different perspective to my students. I often share my work experiences and actual mathematical applications with my students as a means of enhancing their learning experience. My students learn that math actually has applications outside of the classroom.

I have been a professional educator since 2005. In addition to being a full-time Math Tutor, I previously served as the Upper Level Math Teacher at the Farmington Valley Academy Montessori School in Avon, CT and as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Hartford.

I live in Canton, CT with my wife, Carrie.
